Arnold Nouwens was born in Holland and immigrated with his family to Vancouver at the age of nine. His main training and support came from his father who himself was an established painter of mainly still-life and portraits, trained in the Dutch School of Art. Soon after high school, Arnold landed a Junior Artist position at Woodward's and eventually became Senior Art Director for three of the top Ad Agencies in Vancouver.

Eventually Arnold and his son formed Nouwens Graphic Arts Inc. which continues today as Gusto Martketing under the direction of his son Tyler.

Retiring in 2005 from commercial art, Arnold has been painting full time since. Over his working career he has never-the-less managed to sell his paintings at the Atelier Gallery and privately as far back as 1970.

Today Arnold works out of his studio in Powell River, and is an active member of the Malaspina Art Society and the Federation of Canadian Artists where within two years has sold and twice been awarded the "Award of Excellence" recognitions. In 2011, Arnold was also awarded BC's first prize at the "Ukranian Cultural 40th Anniversary" painting competition held in Victoria.

Arnold has sold Nationally and Internationally over his life span of painting, and eagerly continues to paint his wide range of styles and subjects.
